Earthly Treasures/Γη των θησαυρών

earthstreasures2

Minimal handmade collage by Angela Zafiris

I didn’t start with a theme when I started playing with random pictures. I had the hand and the silver jug on paper first and the images fueled my imagination and it gave me this result. I think the artwork could be about the environment. It seems very ecological. I started working on this in April and April 22 was earth day, so why not?

Δεν ξεκίνησα με ένα θέμα όταν άρχισα να παίζω με τυχαίες εικόνες. Είχα πρώτα το χέρι και την ασημένια κανάτα σε χαρτί και οι εικόνες τροφοδότησαν τη φαντασία μου και μου έδωσε αυτό το αποτέλεσμα. Νομίζω ότι το έργο τέχνης θα μπορούσε να αφορά το περιβάλλον. Φαίνεται πολύ οικολογικό. Άρχισα να εργάζομαι σε αυτό τον Απρίλιο και στις 22 Απριλίου ήταν ημέρα της γης, ε λοιπόν γιατί όχι;

Escape From Earth/Αποδραστε απο τη Γη

escapefromearth

Lets escape this world

Leave the corrupt behind

Our holy bones

Do not rest

  The air makes us breathless

The water poisons and brings us thirst

                                                         The endless warnings of doom

                                                                         and gloom

 *2 and 1/2 minutes

on the clock

                                                                       till midnight

                                                                 That’s what they say

But, not if we are a world away.

* References the doomsday clock. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomsday_Clock

The poem is inspired by all of the talk of ‘doomsday’ in April (again).

‘Breaking the ice’minimal collage on paper by Angela Zafiris

To be the first to break the ice of the enterprize.”- Plutarch, ‘Lives of the noble Grecians and Romanes’

“If it be so, sir, that you are the man
Must stead us all and me amongst the rest,
And if you break the ice and do this feat,
Achieve the elder, set the younger free
For our access, whose hap shall be to have her
Will not so graceless be to be ingrate.”  Shakespeare, ‘The Taming of the Shrew’
