A distant shot of the ‘strawberry moon’ from yesterday. Before this year I had never hear of this phenomena. It is called a strawberry moon because the Algonquin tribes of North America saw the pinkish moon as a sign to harvest the wild strawberries. Strawberry time! 🙂

Μια μακρινή φωτογραφία από το ‘strawberry moon’ δηλαδή φεγγάρι «φράουλα» από χθες. Πριν από αυτό το έτος δεν είχα ακούσει ποτέ για αυτo τo φαινόμενo. Ονομάζεται φεγγάρι «φράουλα» επειδή οι φυλές Algonquin της Βόρειας Αμερικής είδαν το ροζέ φεγγάρι ως σημάδι για τη συγκομιδή των άγριων φραουλών. Ωρα για φράουλες!

Super Blue Blood Red Moon

The “Supermoon” went from blood red to yellow.

Today was the day the ‘supertrifecta’: blue moon, supermoon and total lunar eclipse occurred all at once, the last time this happened was 150 years ago!

Here in Greece, I was able to see the moon clearly and I saw the full moon change hues from red to yellow ocher. But, I didn’t see any blue hues on the moon. People who live in East Asia, Australia, and the West coast of North America will see this extremely rare supermoon a lot more clearly.

The phrase ‘once and a blue moon’ comes to mind and I think that we can expect a lot of changes with this rare moon. I believe the changes have already affected me because I did a good job of cleaning and organizing my bedroom 😉

Solar Storm

On the day of the Solar eclipse we had an incredible lightning storm in Athens. Storms like this one are a rare occurrence at this time of the year here in Athens. So, naturally I swung my camera into action, but those bolts were too quick for me. I did manage to get one lucky shot though as well as photos of weird faces in the clouds.

Lightning noun ‘a brilliant electric spark discharge in the atmosphere, occurring within a thundercloud, between clouds, or between a cloud and the ground.’

After the Storm/Μετά την Καταιγίδα

It rained hard a few days ago, hail, cats and dogs! It’s very unusual for this time of year in Greece. I don’t mind the rain so much, just as long as there isn’t any severe flooding. But, since I get to capture this strange natural phenomena called a rainbow it’s all good 🙂

Έβρεξε πριν από λίγες ημέρες, χαλάζι, γάτες και σκυλιά! Είναι πολύ ασυνήθιστο για αυτή την εποχή του χρόνου στην Ελλάδα. Δεν με πειράζει η βροχή τόσο πολύ, ακριβώς εφ ‘όσον δεν υπάρχει σοβαρές πλημμύρες. Αλλά, δεδομένου ότι μπορώ να απαθανατίζω αυτό το παράξενο φυσικό φαινόμενα που ονομάζεται ουράνιο τόξο- όλα καλά τότε:)
