Kithira island is listed as one of the Ionian islands eventhough its location is off the coast of the south eastern tip of the Peloponnese penninsula. It is a more laid back island, nice and calm with a lot of stunning beaches. When I went it was a couple weeks after the fires that devastated some parts of the island. The winds were very strong and some beaches particualry the one in the area that I stayed at called Agia Pelagia was rough. The beaches on the eastern coast of the island were a lot calmer.

The photographs that are took are from the village of ‘Chora’. There are nice shops and coffee shops. A byzantium fort, then Venetian fort when they arrived in the 16th century. The views from the fort are stunning. Down below is Kapsali beach with its fish tavernas lining the coast line.

Τα Κύθηρα έχουν χαρακτηριστεί ως ένα από τα Ιόνια νησιά, παρόλο που βρίσκονται στα ανοικτά των ακτών του νοτιοανατολικού άκρου της χερσονήσου της Πελοποννήσου. Είναι ένα πιο χαλαρό νησί, ωραίο και ήρεμο με πολλές εκπληκτικές παραλίες. Όταν πήγα, ήταν μερικές εβδομάδες μετά τις πυρκαγιές που κατέστρεψαν ορισμένα μέρη του νησιού. Οι άνεμοι ήταν πολύ δυνατοί και ορισμένες παραλίες, ειδικά αυτή στην περιοχή που έμεινα, που ονομάζεται Αγία Πελαγία, ήταν άγρια. Οι παραλίες στην ανατολική ακτή του νησιού ήταν πολύ πιο ήρεμες.

Οι φωτογραφίες που τραβήχτηκαν είναι από το χωριό «Χώρα». Υπάρχουν ωραία καταστήματα και καφετέριες. Ένα βυζαντινό φρούριο, και στη συνέχεια ενετικό φρούριο όταν έφτασαν τον 16ο αιώνα. Η θέα από το φρούριο είναι εκπληκτική. Κάτω βρίσκεται η παραλία Καψάλι με τις ψαροταβέρνες της κατά μήκος της ακτογραμμής.
