Beautiful Iris/Πανέμορφη Ίρις

One of my favourite flowers is named after the Greek goddess who rode rainbows.

I was uploading these photographs while listening to genius Greek composer Vangelis Papathanasiou’s music. Vangelis passed away recently. But, his music will live on.

R.I.P to to the legendary Vangelis.

Ένα από τα αγαπημένα μου λουλούδια έχει πάρει το όνομά της από την Ελληνίδα θεά που καβάλησε ουράνια τόξα.

Ανέβαζα αυτές τις φωτογραφίες ενώ άκουγα τη μουσική του ιδιοφυούς Έλληνα συνθέτη Βαγγέλη Παπαθανασίου. Ο Βαγγέλης έφυγε πρόσφατα από τη ζωή. Όμως, η μουσική του θα συνεχίσει.

R.I.P στον θρυλικό Βαγγέλη.

Ranunculus

This was my first time planting ranunculus bulbs in the garden.

I am very impressed by its beauty!

Mirabelle Tree/Kορομηλιά

Spring time has been dragging its heels this year.
It was a very unusal frigid March followed by the suffoctatin Sahara dust that cover the sky for days. A phenomenon that we experience sometimes in Greece as well as other parts of Europe.

It’s nice to finally see clear blue skies and the blossoms on my mirabelle tree.

Η άνοιξη σέρνει τα τακούνια της φέτος. Ήταν μια πολύ ασυνήθιστη παγωμένη πορεία ακολουθούμενη από την ασφυκτική σκόνη της Σαχάρας που σκεπάζει τον ουρανό για μέρες. Ένα φαινόμενο που βιώνουμε μερικές φορές στην Ελλάδα αλλά και σε άλλα μέρη της Ευρώπης.

Είναι ωραίο να βλέπω επιτέλους καταγάλανους ουρανούς και τα άνθη στο δέντρο mirabelle μου.

Frosty Flowers

A few more photographs taken during the freak blizzard that hit Greece last week. The pictures were taken in low-light conditions because I was worried that if I waited for the strong Greek sun to come out then all of the snow would melt. Then I would have missed the opportunity to photograph the snow-covered plants. There was not much that can be done to brighten them in photoshop. So they’re not my best flower photographs to date.

Pink Snow Covered Rose

The sudden snowstorm caught my garden by surprise. Luckily the snow melted the next day when the sun came out because aloe veras, cacti, and citrus trees cannot deal with frost.

With the broom to brush off the snow on the plants in one hand and the camera in the other, I am a great multi-tasker!

Rainy Rose

Snow has fallen on the mountains and I don’t dare go outside. I’ll get blown away by powerful gusts of wind. Winter has indeed arrived here in Greece. And baby it’s cold outside brrrrr.

I prefer this coloured photo than black and white because I love the vibrancy of the red.
