Happy New Month! Καλό μήνα!

Moving on to February and I hope this month won’t be as catastrophic and dramatic like January. My Goodness that was a lot. There was not one slow news day during that month. But, whatever may come we have to face it with strength not fear.

Strength to strength

Shore to shore

There is not a life in ruins

Or time wasted

We each carry our burdens

and our traumas

Whether our fate is assigned or

Whether we are the masters of  it

We must emulate the roses

That wither, but are resilient

And come alive again.

*I love the strength and resiliency of the roses in my garden. From intense heat waves and cold snaps they pull through. Some humans should need to get some lessons from nature.

Humanity’s’ shame.

**************

I wrote a  Haiku Japanese ancient poem to describe my shock when I saw a sunflower bloom in the garden this December.  I planted the seed in May and they usually bloom   in June here in Greece. I read that July was the hottest month on record for the planet resulting in the melting of  the Arctic and Antarctic sea ice and many other calamities. Then October came and there was a heatwave in Europe, the temperatures almost reached 30 °C.  The seed that failed to germinate in the spring got it’s second chance in the unusually warm fall season.

Very worrying indeed. 😦

My beautiful lilium bloomed again this year.

Secrets never revealed in the light of day

Hidden, too frightened to come out to play

too slow to burn

too fast to catch

Too shadowy to be your object

to aim and strike at

I remain with a watchful eye

like a creature in the night

Watching the bright stars fall and fade away

Smile in the grey shade

Resilience is the key to the dream.

March Tradition/O Μάρτης

Marchbraclet

Καλό μήνα!  Happy new month!

The red and white string in the photo is worn by Greeks and by people from Balkan countries during the month of March. It’s supposed to protect a person from getting sun burnt this month. The March sun can be deceptive; you don’t think it will burn you because it’s not summer yet, but it will. So a bit of sun screen coupled with this string would be a better idea.

At the end of the month the string is put on a rose bush so that the birds can take it and use it to make their nests.
