Pertouli Ski Resort/Περτουλι Χιονοδρομικό Κέντρο

A quick stop at the ski resort Pertouli. No skiing for me; I just wanted to check it out, and to take some pictures of.. course ;),

Pertouli is a small mountain town that is part of the province of Trikala in Central Greece. The ski resort is forty-five minutes from the city of Trikala which makes the resort easily accessible.

It’s not a huge ski resort it is 1.150 m in height, and the nearby village has under 100 inhabitants.

Μια γρήγορη στάση στο χιονοδρομικό Περτούλι. Δεν κάνω σκι, απλώς ήθελα να το τσεκάρω και να βγάλω μερικές φωτογραφίες, φυσικά 😉

Το Περτούλι είναι μια μικρή ορεινή κωμόπολη που ανήκει στην επαρχία Τρικάλων της Στερεάς Ελλάδας. Το χιονοδρομικό κέντρο απέχει σαράντα πέντε λεπτά από την πόλη των Τρικάλων που κάνει το θέρετρο εύκολα προσβάσιμο.

Δεν είναι ένα τεράστιο χιονοδρομικό κέντρο, έχει ύψος 1.150 μ. και το κοντινό χωριό έχει λιγότερους από 100 κατοίκους

Frosty Flowers

A few more photographs taken during the freak blizzard that hit Greece last week. The pictures were taken in low-light conditions because I was worried that if I waited for the strong Greek sun to come out then all of the snow would melt. Then I would have missed the opportunity to photograph the snow-covered plants. There was not much that can be done to brighten them in photoshop. So they’re not my best flower photographs to date.

The sudden snowstorm caught my garden by surprise. Luckily the snow melted the next day when the sun came out because aloe veras, cacti, and citrus trees cannot deal with frost.

With the broom to brush off the snow on the plants in one hand and the camera in the other, I am a great multi-tasker!

Wintry Scenes/Χειμερινές Σκηνές

A few photographs of the worst snowfall I have ever seen in Athens! The historical and very rare snowstorm named ‘Elpis’ (Hope!) ravaged parts of Greece that were not accustomed to this kind of weather. There was certainly no hope for the drivers whose cars got stuck on the road.

The drivers had no choice but to leave their vehicles on the side of the road and to walk to their homes. Also, there was no hope for the drivers on the highway that were stuck for over 5 hours. Some remainded until the morning! The army had to come in to assist in the situation. Yikes! How embarrassing!

It just goes to show how powerless humans against mother nature’s wrath.

From the extreme heat in the summer to the extreme cold this winter the climate is very much bonkers! Having been accustomed to the cold as I grew up in Canada, I do prefer the cold to the heat here in Greece, but only when I am inside 😉

Μερικές φωτογραφίες από τη ΧΕΙΡΟΤΕΡΗ χιονόπτωση που έχω δει ποτέ στην Αθήνα! Η ιστορική και πολύ σπάνια χιονοθύελλα με το όνομα «Ελπίς» κατέστρεψε μέρη της Ελλάδας που δεν ήταν συνηθισμένα σε αυτό το είδος καιρού. Σίγουρα δεν υπήρχε ελπίδα για τους οδηγούς των οποίων τα αυτοκίνητα κόλλησαν στο δρόμο.

Οι οδηγοί δεν είχαν άλλη επιλογή από το να αφήσουν τα οχήματά τους στην άκρη του δρόμου και να περπατήσουν μέχρι τα σπίτια τους. Επίσης, δεν υπήρχε ‘ελπίδα’ για τους οδηγούς στην Αττικη Οδο που έμειναν καθηλωμένοι για πάνω από 5 ώρες. Κάποιοι έμειναν μέχρι το πρωί! Έπρεπε να μπει ο στρατός για να βοηθήσει στην κατάσταση!

Απλώς δείχνει πόσο ανίσχυροι είναι οι άνθρωποι ενάντια στην οργή της μητέρας φύσης.

Από την υπερβολική ζέστη του περασμένου καλοκαιριού μέχρι το ακραίο κρύο του φετινού χειμώνα, το κλίμα έχει τρελαθεί! Προτιμώ το κρύο από τη ζέστη εδώ στην Ελλάδα, αλλά μόνο όταν είμαι μέσα 😉

Snowy Mountain Peak/Χιονισμενα Βουνα

A few photographs of the snow on the mountains of Attiki region of Greece. The snow from the unusual snow storm ‘Medea’ has all melted away, thank goodness.

Μερικές φωτογραφίες από τα χιόνια στα βουνά της Αττικής εδω στην Ελλάδα. Το χιόνι από την ασυνήθιστη χιονοθύελλα ‘Μηδεια’ έχει λιώσει, ευτυχος.

Camouflage

Angelo may be as white as snow, but that doesn’t mean that he is a big fan of it. It took him a while to finally step in to the snow after I let him out. He was very shocked by it as he was not used to such a snowfall.

He prefers the summer. He loves the heat and sun bathing 🙂

Frozen Plants/Παγωμενα Φυτα

A few photographs of my frozen plants in my garden. They got the shock of their plant lives when an unusual cold snap hit Athens. So strange, especially after an unseasonably warm week more than a week ago. I hope they survive this and heal from the trauma! 😉

Μερικές φωτογραφίες των κατεψυγμένων φυτών μου στον κήπο μου. Πήραν το σοκ από τις φυτικές τους ζωές όταν ένα ασυνήθιστο ψύχος έπληξε την Αθήνα. Τόσο περίεργο, ειδικά μετά από μια απροσδόκητα ζεστή εβδομάδα πριν από μια εβδομάδα πριν. Ελπίζω να επιβιώσουν και να επουλωθούν από το τραύμα! 😉

Snow Storm Medea/Χιονοθύελλα Μήδεια

Poor plants. Not used to this cold snap.

A historical and rare snow storm arrived in Greece this week. Such a snow fall is rare for Athens. I don’t recall seeing that much snow fall in the city in all the years that I have been living in Greece. The turbulent storm was named after the turbulent character of Medea in Ancient Greek Tragedy. A fitting name as three people lost their lives.

Due to the pandemic, most people were home and few people were out enjoying the snow-at least in my area. It was eerily quiet. A bit of a dystopian kind of vibe. But, the weather brought back memories of Toronto where I was raised. And of course I took a lot of photos 🙂

Snow Capped Mountains/Χιονισμενα Βουνα

mtpentelitxt snowcappedmountains The new year brought a new winter storm named ‘Telemachos’ (named after a character in Greek mythology) to Greece. It snowed in the Attiki region of Greece for the first time in years. The rest of Greece is worse than Canada-yikes! I wanted to make it up those mountains take some pictures, but the traffic is insane.
