Surrounded by mirrors
On the streets
No passersby
Gazes at the looking-glass
Even the beautiful
Won’t gaze at the glass
Under the rays of the harsh day light
To avoid the truth
The frown that still lingers
A wrinkle that is permanent
The furrowed brow of anger and resentment
The reflection of a tear in the eye

Where ever you go in any city you are bound to see a few things that are little off. I have seen some odd things during my walks in Athens. There are a few things that a tourist or even a local Greek would find ‘kitsch’ or odd and I love to capture these oddities with my camera..the stranger the better 😉

A silver platter and musical instruments hang like meat at an antique shop.
There is a street in downtown Athens that has many antique shops. I saw a few products that my family used to own when I was growning up that I had forgotten about. Some of these products seem to have come back in style like records and record players and older cameras. Many people still love Polaroid cameras despite the more high-tech digital cameras that are out we now.
Maybe it’s not such a great idea to throw everything out when newer products come to replace the older ones. But, I guess we would all be hoarders if we kept everything. I kept thinking that in the future the products that I am using will be in these shops. It’s a bit depressing, but it will most likely happen. Most of the people that were walking by eyeing the antiques were older people. I bet they prefer they were feeling very nostalgic and would prefer the older stuff to the new. Sometimes for some people what is new doesn’t always mean that it is better.
I took a Stroll through touristy Monastiraki and a street there with antiques. There were so many wonderful things to photograph. I don’t know why I didn’t come here before.

My first post of 2015 and I thought I would post a new word collage that I made . I cut out a few words and sentences from magazines in different languages that are important and mean something to me. Then, I painted over the words with some acrylic paint. I had a hard time coming up with a title for it, but I think that ‘Meaningful Words’ is an ok title since they weren’t just random words that I used.
Για το πρώτο μου ‘post’ για το 2015 σκέφτηκα να δημοσιεύσω ένα νέο κολάζ που ειχα φτιαξει . Έκοψα μερικές λέξεις και φράσεις από περιοδικά σε διάφορες γλώσσες που είναι σημαντικά και σημαίνουν κάτι για μένα. Στη συνέχεια, ζωγραφισα πάνω από τις λέξεις με ορισμένα ακρυλικα χρώματα. Δυσκολεύτηκα να καταλήξω σε έναν τίτλο για το κολαζ, αλλά νομίζω ότι το «Λέξεις με Νόημα» είναι ένας καλός τίτλος επειδή δεν ήταν τυχαίες οι λέξεις που είχα κοψει.

Happy New Year everyone! Wishing that 2015 will be a happier, peaceful and warmer (!) new year.
I went downtown last Sunday and I took a few photos of the craziness that is Athens during the Christmas season. I was lucky that I went downtown before the winter weather really hit us. Today’s weather reminds me of the awful Canadian winters that I lived through as a child and that I would like to forget-but can’t! (urghhh) I enjoy the mild winters in Greece. December felt like October; I was still racking leaves! Now, all of the mountains in Athens and the rest of Greece are covered in snow, and the Athenians are not pleased about that not one bit. Also, it wasn’t such a great end to the new year for Greece for a few reasons like the call for early elections that no one wants, the nautical catastrophe of the ship ‘Norman Atlantic’, and the ‘Canadian weather’. So, let us hope that next year will not be ‘doom and gloom’ as some people say it will be. I’ll just say that it is going to be a better year.. no a great year! ;))
