Earlier this month, I took a short trip to the Southern tip of the Peloponnese.  One of the places that I visited, for the first time, was Pylos. Pylos (pronounced pee-lo)  is a small and picturesque town in the province of Messinia.  The weather played a few tricks on us, first it was cloudy and then sunny. Later on it rained a lot, and that is unusual for Greece for the month of June. So, I wasn’t able to get enough sunlight in some of the photographs, but with a view like this it really didn’t matter.

This was the first time that I visited the sea port called ‘Flisvos’ at Palaio Faliro located  southwest of Athens’ center. There were so many things to photograph from the people, to the boats and of course the sea. I felt a bit like a paparazzo at times, but I  tried to be discreet so I didn’t have any problems with anyone 🙂

Lavender/Λεβάντα

Lavender from my garden

I’m glad I took this macro shot of a lavender flower, from a pot in my garden, because I didn’t notice how beautiful this  flower is.  I have found that the  lavender flower is very useful too.  The flower can be brewed to make a tea for coughs, and its essential oils can be used for aroma therapy, also its strong scent keeps clothes smelling fresh and free of bites from pesky moths.

Road Less Travelled

Digital collage by Angela Zafiris

She took the road less travelled..so let her be.

“Life is difficult. This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths. It is a great truth because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult – once we truly understand and accept it – then life is no longer difficult. Because once it is accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.” The Road Less Travelled’ by Psychiatrist & Author Scott Peck

Oceanid/Ὠκεανίς

A Oceanid

A a visual person I can see some strange things in my head sometimes.  When I saw the above image in my mind, I decided to attempt to paint it.  The painting made me think of an Oceanid-a sea-nymph from Greek and Roman Mythology. There are three thousand Oceanids and they are daughters of the Titans Oceanus and Tethys. Each Oceanid were patronesses of  rivers, ponds, lakes and so on.

From the 15th-18th of May Athens hosted the annual ‘Art- Athina’.  Art-Athina is a contemporary art exhibition featuring Greek  and international artists.  It was a large exhibition that was held at a stadium (TaeKwonDo).  It was  interesting  seeing how Greek artists were expressing their opinions about the economic crisis in Greece through art. I left feeling very inspired and glad that there are so many people who are passionate about art in this monetary world.

It’s easy to want to get lost in these green fields

Just what all city folk like me needs, a quick escape to the countryside. Greece is a very small country, but the great thing about it is that there are so many unique landscapes. From the grey and noisy concrete city you can be transporeted to quiet green fields  in just a few minutes.

FYI-My photographs reminded my of a collage titled ‘Emerald Landscape’ that I made a while back! http://wp.me/pTPRg-i5
