Many Crosses to Bear

greekbiblequotes3I have no laurels

to sit on

so I’ll count my losses

and carry gold crosses

I will win this war.

“And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.” Matthew 10:38

Two Black Hearts/Δυο Μαυρες Καρδιες

twoblackheartstext.jpg

Two frozen black hearts melt in the sun light. They can’t hide in the shadow forever..

Two black hearts
Collide
Αn anger that won’t subside
Cold and dark
As a winters’ night
They fight
The light together
From blue to black
And black to blue

Μay a black heart never trouble you!

‘Better a red face than a black heart’. Portuguese proverb

Between Two Lands

Greek and Canadian CoinsI know a woman who is
Torn between two lands
Her eyes are closed
Her arms are stretched out
And raised high to the sky
To feel the heat of the sun
But instead she feels the biting of the cold
The glass is never empty or ever full
The bitter and sweet tastes
Will forever remain on her tongue
Her heart is split between two worlds
Two different lives
In two different countries
She is careful not to betray either one
She says she stays in a land that she did not choose
Or did she?

Many Mirrors/Πολλούς Καθρέφτες

bwmirrortext.jpg

Long MirrorsSurrounded by mirrors
On the streets
No passersby
Gazes at the looking-glass
Even the beautiful
Won’t gaze at the glass
Under the rays of the harsh day light
To avoid the truth
The frown that still lingers
A wrinkle that is permanent
The furrowed brow of anger and resentment
The reflection of a tear in the eye
But the glass doesn’t see the soul
Only the surface
It’s not a true reflection.

The Glorious Past/Το Ένδοξο Παρελθόν

A statue of a Greek soldier staring at the Acropolis from below.

“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”

‘The Wing-symbolizes freedom’

Display of scultures and their meaning

A Poem by famous Greek poet Giannis Ritsos who was a patient at the sanatorium

In my previous blog post I talked about the Sanatoruim which is located outside of Athens on the mountain of Parnitha. Across the road from the abandoned building is a small park with wooden sculptures. The wooden sculptures  were created by sculptor Spirdon Dasiotis in 2012. The sculptures are an homage to the people who passed through the doors of the building when it was operating as a Sanatorium for tuberculosis patients.

‘We love the earth, , people, the animals.  The reptiles, the sky, and the insects. We are, we are and all of us together. Together and the sky and earth.” Giannis Ritsos
